Fodder production for enhanced livelihoods in the drylands of Kenya
Fodder production practices have been introduced and encouraged particularly among the communities in the drylands of Kenya to address the perennial feed scarcity which has been a major limiting factor to livestock production in such areas. This video is intended to indicate some of the major challenges faced by the smallholder fodder producers in such areas, as well as what research has indicated regarding fodder production and marketing. It also shows a success story, where a smallholder fodder producer has been able to change his life courtesy of fodder production. It finally introduces our innovation; the use of digital platform (FodderNet and collective action group as an approach for enhanced access to information regarding fodder production and marketing in Kenya.

This photo-story shows the environmental and economic effects of climate change particularly the longer and more frequent droughts among the pastoral and agro-pastoral communities in Kenya. It presents the model; the use of combined digital platform and collective action groups as a promising tool to enhance access to both production and marketing information which have been identified as some of the most limiting factors adoption and profitability of fodder production among the communities in the drylands of Kenya.
