I was privileged to attend the above workshop in Kigali sponsored by INADES formation. I had submitted 18 success stories on climate change adaptation from the Eastern Africa region, where 5 were selected from 149 submitted.
The workshop was to train participants on how to capitalize experiences from the field in relation to climate change adaptation.
Capitalization is to transform an experience into knowledge knowledge to be able to share and put at the service of action and knowledge. It is also the process through which an experience is identified, validated and documented, leading to learning and identification of good practices which can then be adapted, improved, adopted by others and up-scaled leading to a greater impact.
Before capitalization of an experience it is good to ask yourself these questions;
In terms of climate change adaptation, there a lot of practices by our communities using Indigenous knowledge to adapt to climate change effects. It is our responsibility therefore to capitalize these experiences for upscaling and adoption purposes.
